Effects of T2 Relaxation and Diffusion on Longitudinal Magnetization State and Signal Build for HOMOGENIZED Cross Peaks
نویسندگان
چکیده
An analytical expression has been developed to describe the effects of T2 relaxation and diffusing spatially modulated longitudinal spins during the signal build period of an HOMOGENIZED cross peak. Diffusion of the longitudinal spins results in a lengthening of the effective dipolar demagnetization time, delaying the re-phasing of coupled anti-phase states in the quantum picture. In the classical picture the unwinding rate of spatially twisted magnetization is no longer constant, but decays exponentially with time. The expression is experimentally verified for the HOMOGENIZED spectrum of 100mM TSP in H2O at 4.7T.

Fast Spin Echo Imaging
In conventional spin echo (SE) imaging, the longitudinal magnetization (that is generated by the presence of the main magnetic field, B0) is tipped into the transverse plane using a radiofrequency (RF) pulse that tips the magnetization 90 degrees. Once in the transverse plane, the magnetization rotates, or precesses, around the axis of the main magnetic field. As the transverse magnetization pr...
متن کاملT-One insensitive Steady State Imaging (TOSSI): Obtaining TrueFISP images with pure T2 contrast
Synopsis A new concept is proposed for generation of purely T2 weighted images, even in the presence of signal from longitudinal relaxation. This is accomplished by imaging in between non-equally spaced 180°-pulses which alternatively flip the magnetization into states parallel and antiparallel to B0. With optimized timing, magnetization courses are identical for different T1s, which removes T1...

Introduction In theory, the NMR signal is expected to scale more than linearly with magnetic field strength [1]. On the other hand, practical MRI applications such as diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) using echo-planar imaging (EPI) are also affected by a marked reduction of T2 and T2* relaxation times, the latter referring to enhanced magnetic field inhomogeneities with corresponding geometric di...

The term “steady state” refers to the equilibrium condition that evolves when magnetization experiences a train of radiofrequency (RF) pulses. If RF pulses are applied on the order of seconds (TR≈T1), the magnetization decays away completely in the transverse plane between RF pulses, but may not recover fully along the longitudinal axis. In the resulting steady state, the magnetization tipped a...

OBJECTIVE To estimate longitudinal changes in a quantitative whole-brain and tract-specific MRI study of multiple sclerosis (MS), with the intent of assessing the feasibility of this approach in clinical trials. METHODS A total of 78 individuals with MS underwent a median of 3 scans over 2 years. Diffusion tensor imaging indices, magnetization transfer ratio, and T2 relaxation time were analy...
